Ecoutez - Simpan Saja (Keep it to Yourself)
A very crisp number from Ecoutez. I”ve always loved this particular song ever since highschool. So when I stumbled upon it again I know I have to post this.

Stars - “Your Ex-Lover is Dead”
Stars is a band from Toronto, Canada, with two lead singers, Torquil Campbell and Amy Millan. All of the members of the band are also part of another band called Broken Social Scene. In their music, they often employ lush instrumentation, soft vocal layers, and narrative lyrics. They have a new album coming out soon on June 22, 2010 called The Five Ghosts.

Dntel - Last Songs
Dntel has a lot of great stuff out there and we’ve seen how could he can be when he pairs up with Ben Gibbard (The Postal Service happens, the collab album before that inspired The Postal Service is awesome as well). This is an example of some of the stuff he does, in a more mellow, entry level type song. One of my favorites is “Roll On” and I like some of the stuff he does with Conor Oberst.
sheer beauty (and nice music too!)

M. Ward - Vincent O’Brien
What a voice! I love how he can make it all gravily and smooth and the same time, this is my favorite album that he’s put out so far entitled Transfiguration of Vincent but I dig Transistor Radio a lot as well. Of course it helps that his lyrics are pretty awesome as well. “Outta My Head,” “Sad, Sad Song” are really awesome as well, I was struggling over which song to pick from the album.

this kinda brought tears to my eyes
Brett Dennen - Desert Sunrise
Dennen has some really unique qualities to his music, he kind of reminds me of a less in-your-face version of Jason Mraz. He was home schooled in Oakdale, California and taught himself guitar when he was twelve. I had no idea he was 30 either! The guy looks like he’s 18! In any case, a great little mellow number perfect for a cafe. All too fitting!

Sufjan Stevens - Chicago
In this song he talks about how people, after making mistakes, escape on highways to go make new parking lots and such. He’s got a huge number of friends with him on the disc including the Illinoisemaker choir, a string quartet, James McAllister on drums, Craig Montoro trumpeting and what sounds like a bunch of backup singers. He even recorded the piano at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Brooklyn. With that much love on a cd it’s no wonder it’s amazing.
